Privacy and data
Where are my conversations, memories and documents stored?
On your own computer, in Haily's data folder. Your documents stay where you keep them; Haily only builds a search index of your Library, and that index is stored locally too.
What leaves my computer, exactly?
Only four things, and only when they apply:
- Your requests and the context they need go to the cloud AI provider you connected, when you use it.
- Messages go through Telegram, if you turn Telegram on.
- Web pages Haily visits for you see an ordinary browser visit.
- About once an hour, an update check goes to our server with the app version, your operating system, the update channel, whether Haily was used that day and two anonymous counting codes. Nothing that identifies you.
The privacy page explains each one in detail.
Can DXSL read my conversations?
No. You do not create an account with us, and none of our servers receives your conversations, memories or files. The only thing that reaches us is the anonymous update check.
Can I keep everything on my computer?
Yes. Use local models only (also as your default model for background work) and do not connect Telegram: then nothing about your work leaves your computer except the update check, which you can turn off in Settings › General. Web tasks still visit the websites you ask about, of course.
Can I see and delete what Haily remembers about me?
Yes. Open the Knowledge window (“Tri thức”). Everything Haily remembers is listed there; you can edit any entry or forget it. See Memory in the guide.
Is Haily open source?
No. Haily is closed-source software made by DXSL. It is free for personal use; see the terms of use.
Installation and your computer
Which computers can run Haily?
64-bit Windows, and 64-bit Linux (Ubuntu 22.04 or newer, Debian 12 or newer, or a recent Fedora). Haily is not yet available for Mac.
How powerful does my computer need to be?
With a cloud AI account, any modern PC is enough, because the heavy thinking happens at your provider. To run models on your own computer, 16 GB of memory (RAM) is recommended.
Do I need a graphics card?
No. A graphics card is optional and only helps local models answer faster. Haily can use NVIDIA cards (CUDA) and other cards through Vulkan.
How do updates work?
Haily checks for new versions by itself and tells you when one is ready. On Windows one click installs it, or you can let Haily install updates while your computer is idle. On Linux, update through your package manager. More on the download page.
How do I uninstall Haily?
On Windows: Windows Settings › Apps › Haily › Uninstall. On Linux: remove the package with your package manager. Your data folder is kept so you can reinstall later; delete it yourself if you want everything gone. See Stopping and uninstalling.
Models and costs
What is a “model”, and which one should I choose?
The model is the AI “brain” Haily thinks with. If you already pay for an AI service, connect that account: it is the easiest start. If privacy matters most, or you would rather not pay per use, run a local model on your computer. You can change your mind at any time.
Which AI accounts can I connect?
OpenAI, Claude (Anthropic), Gemini, ChatGPT, OpenCode Go and Antigravity. For local models, Haily has a built-in engine and also works with Ollama.
How much does it cost to use?
Haily is free. A cloud provider bills you directly for what you use, at its own prices; local models cost nothing to run. The Costs screen (“Chi phí”) shows what you have spent, and you can set a daily budget that warns you as you get close.
Why does Haily use different models for different questions?
To save you time and money. With automatic selection, Haily answers simple questions with a quick model and saves a stronger “thinking” model for hard problems. A separate default model handles background work such as remembering and learning.
Free and Pro
Is Haily really free?
Yes. Every feature is free for personal use, with no account to create and no trial period.
What will Haily Pro add?
People and services rather than features: personal setup on your computer, priority support, training sessions for you or your team, and customisation for organisations. See Haily Pro.
When will Pro be available, and what will it cost?
Neither the date nor the price has been set. Email us if you would like to hear when it opens.
Can I use Haily for my business?
Haily Free is for personal use: you, on your own computer, including for your own work. If you would like to roll Haily out to a team, company or organisation, contact us; that is what Haily Pro is being designed for.
Features
Does Haily keep working when I close the window?
Yes. A background service keeps reminders and scheduled tasks running; the Haily icon in the system tray shows it is there. Choose “Dừng Haily” (Stop Haily) in the tray menu to stop it completely.
Will Haily do things without asking me?
Only what you allow. In the “Tự động” (Auto) approval mode, Haily goes ahead with changes that can be undone and always asks before anything that cannot, such as sending, posting, deleting or paying. You can also ask it to check with you before every step, and one switch pauses all changes at once.
Can I undo what Haily did?
Changes to your files can be undone in one click, including going back to how things were before a request. Every action is recorded in a journal. Things that cannot be undone, like a sent message, are exactly the ones Haily asks about first.
Can Haily read my PDFs and reports?
Yes. Put them in your Library folder and ask away; answers cite the documents they came from. Haily reads PDFs, text, Markdown and HTML files. Scanned PDFs without a text layer cannot be searched yet.
Can I use Haily from my phone?
Yes, through Telegram. Connect your own Telegram bot in Settings and Haily chats with you in a private conversation, sends results of scheduled tasks, and can remind you when it is waiting for you. See Telegram in the guide.
I am technical. What else can Haily do?
It is also a capable coding assistant: it works with GitHub and SSH, connects to code editors that support ACP, runs code and analyses data with charts, and comes with a command-line tool.
Troubleshooting
The connection check in the setup fails.
The message says why: usually a mistyped key, an account that has run out of credit or quota, or no internet connection. Fix it at your provider and try again, or skip the step and correct the account later in Settings › Models (“Mô hình”).
I do not see the Haily icon in the tray on Linux.
Your desktop needs a tray that supports app icons. On GNOME, install the “AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support” extension. Without it Haily still runs; stop it from the app's menu instead.
Web tasks do not start on Linux.
Haily needs Google Chrome or Chromium to work on websites, and the Linux package does not install one. Install either browser and try again.
A scheduled task did not run while my computer was off.
Haily can only work while your computer is on. When it starts again, a task that is at most six hours late runs once; older missed runs are skipped rather than piling up.
Haily stopped at a login page or a captcha.
That is on purpose: Haily stops at logins and captchas and hands the page over to you. Complete that step yourself, then let Haily continue.
